The Client
Baker Newman Noyes (BNN) is a tax, assurance, and advisory firm entrusted by individuals and leading organizations to deliver effective accounting and financial solutions.
With roots going back nearly 100 years, BNN was formed in Portland, Maine, in 1995 when Newman, Noyes & Associates merged with partners of KPMG Peat Marwick Portland. Now, BNN has offices stretching across New England and has become one of the largest regional firms in the area.
The Challenge
BNN, an existing client, came to us looking to rebuild the backend of their website on WordPress. They wanted to be able to maintain and update the website on their own and improve site performance. Their website had a rigid custom build that limited the user experience and the development team’s ability to make changes. The client was also dissatisfied with some of their existing web page designs (particularly the personnel page) and wanted help refreshing those.
The 3 Media Web team encountered a few challenges during this 11-week project. The previous production environment had many issues with migrating and exporting databases. Most of their form submissions were delivered to individual mailboxes before being manually added to HubSpot. This workflow needed to be improved for efficiency.
Transferring the code from the original CMS was particularly difficult, as theme templates had to be rewritten. Additionally, much of the previous code relied on outdated custom functions that no longer worked or were inefficient, which called for our developers to revise code templates with WordPress standard functions.
The Solution
Initially, the client’s website had many difficulties that made it difficult for end users to interact with it from the front end and time-consuming for the BNN development team to introduce code changes from the backend.
We created and delivered a backend that is more secure, simpler to use, and easier to update. We relied on WordPress standard build practices to build a more efficient and future-forward site for BNN.
To help with conversions, the 3 Media Web team implemented Gravity Forms to fully integrate lead collection with HubSpot. We also helped the BNN team configure their HubSpot workflows to prepare for the newly built form feeds and trained them on the new workflow.
We also designed and delivered a new ‘People’ archive page with a modern, fresh design. The 3 Media Web team built out the new module and added it to the new theme for launch.
The Results
Overall, our team was able to streamline the front and backend of the Baker Newman Noyes website for a more seamless experience. BNN immediately realized the benefits of having a simplified, more flexible backend, which allowed them to make their own updates faster and easily add resources and blog posts to their website.
BNN will likely see a dramatic increase in lead generation now that their forms are fully integrated with HubSpot and their workflows.
